The Trees

Learn about the trees we climb

The Cathedral

The Cathedral is a magnificent Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) that stands over 120' tall, looming over the Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park. Named for the awe-inspiring architecture of her interior branches which spread, dive and climb in all directions. Once your 40-50 feet off the ground you are in a different world populated only by the birds, bugs and squirrels. Contained within the shell of her canopy, climbing in The Cathedral is as peaceful, quiet and humbling as being within any man-made house of worship.

Best Suited for individual and small groups

Stretch

Standing over 100' tall at the bottom of Camp Long in West Seattle, this Big Leaf Maple (Acer macrophyllum) is a wild climb. Covered in moss and lichens, adorned with sword ferns, and proudly wearing a war wound or two, she's been watching over this park for longer than it's 70 year history! Climbing Stretch is a long haul straight up - as you climb watch the forest canopy change from low, under-story plants to the larger trees of the upper canopy. A great climb for those seeking a more secluded, wooded experience.

Excellent for small and large groups

Her Majesty

Her Majesty stands next to her twin Red Oak (Quercus rubra), watching over the fields at Volunteer Park. A massive, stout and powerful tree, she can handle as many as 6 climbers at once and still look graceful.

With the tips of her upper branches reaching over 110' off the ground, it's easy to feel small and exposed in her arms - especially after all her leaves have fallen. Despite her size, she's an ideal tree for beginners. With multiple climbs available she offers a wide variety of experiences and a great opportunity to climb with friends and family. Stay low and sit on her stout branches, or climb 60' up and see the park from her perspective.

Perfect for small and large groups, as well as personal climbs
